SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Bystanders helped police nab two people suspected of robbing Red Moose Cafe, Saturday.
This crime has brought a quiet Salt Lake City neighborhood and residents to take action. They have banded together to put a stop to crime.
A neighborhood watch group, spurred by one man and with the help of dozens more have created an active neighborhood watch group.
Dan Hull has lived in the same neighborhood for 40-years. “I raised six kids. They have 16 kids and this is home to them,” says Hull.
What was once a quiet and peaceful place has turned into a place of crime. “Gunpoint robberies and others are petty thefts where they’ll break into a car,” says Hull.
CrimeTracker shows 21 crimes have occurred over the last month all in the Emerson area. They include robberies, burglaries, assaults and property crimes and residents are tired of it.
Neighbors say they called police almost every day to complain about suspicious activity.
Two arrests were made over the weekend. 25-year-old Vanessa Genova and 27-year-old Travis Robinson were arrested on suspicion of armed burglary of the Red Moose Café Saturday.
“Somebody was always dealing drugs. That’s the basis of all crimes,” says Hull.
Ken Wall a detective from the Salt Lake Police Departments says neighborhood watch groups help protect neighborhoods. “To better report crimes, to make themselves less vulnerable to becoming victims of crimes, it helps us immensely,” says Wall.
